Chapter 15 Questions

1. I believe that the theme that is most prevalent though this chapter would be innocence. Scout says things and does some things that she does not even understand. When Scout saw all of the people coming and going to talk at Atticus he did not understand. He did not understand why the people were going over to Atticus. He also went up to Mr. Cunningham and told him to say hey to his son. This caught him off guard and then they left. This is a great example of how Scout has innocence.

2. In this chapter is shows the bravery of Atticus. He does not do anything irrational when the cars pull up and all the guys get out. He stayed calm during the whole time. This goes with the theme of bravery. He has the courage to stand out while he out number but many other guys. In this chapter is shows that the Cunninghams are very prejudge and were gonna try to hang Tom Robinson. He was also afraid to do anything in front of Scout and Jem because that is when he left. He was afraid that they would see something they should not.

Mockingbird Infer

I think that the reason behind this is that Atticus wants they to grow up properly. He wants them to properly grow up the way a man and woman should. He wants them to have the best life for them. He also wants them to know that they are very special. They are not just ordinary people. They are very special because they have the Finch blood. Scout said that because it is not Atticus who should tell her what she should do. He never really told her strict guidelines to her life. This is the first time that Atticus ever did this type of thing. The Ladies expect Scout to act all polite like a girl and unlike a guy. She really does not have a real lady to tell her the proper way to become a girl. She is only learning what Jem and Atticus do.

Stages of Morality

1. Obedience: Scout and Jem go together on this one. They have Atticus as their leader. He will always tell them what is correct or incorrect. They act him about things that they do not know. Jem is starting to mature and will soon have the wisdom to learn what is right. Jem will start to teach Scout about the proper law and rules. Both of them already know a lot because Atticus is a lawyer and deals with many things. Atticus said to Jem and Scout, "If I don't do what is right, how could I teach you".

6. Universal Ethics: Atticus is a great example of universal ethics. He has to defend Tom Robinson even though he is an minority and people do not like him because of his race. He is teaching everyone in the town a great lesson by doing this. He is showing that you will always have to do what is correct and moral even if you prefer not to. Sometimes you will have to step up to the plate and battle the hardest thing you will encounter if your life. People are making fun of Atticus, even Jem and Scouts friends. Yet he continues to lead a great example for Jem and Scout.

Norms

1. Atticus is most relates to a Subjective Norm. All the people in the town look at him. He is the lawyer that always knows what he is doing. Jem and Scout are follow in his example. He tells them what is right and was is wrong. People in the town know that he would never do anything bad. Atticus is the only person that Jem and Scout will go to. They know that he will always know the answer to lifes problems. Atticus has a vast knowledge and always has wise answer. He is one of the very intelligent persons in Maycomb County.

2. An example of a person that goes out of their norm is Scout. She is out of the implicit Norm. She does not act like a lady. She acts more like a guy and wants to fit in with Dill and Jem. She does not care though that she is unlike all of the other girls. Another example of a person who broke an implicit norm would probably be Atticus shooting the dog. He is not known as a gun slinger for many years. He has moved passed that part in his life but then goes back when he has to shoot the dog. It is not likely to see that type of person shooting a dog. Lastly, another person who was out of their norm would probably be Ms. Dubose. All of the other ladies such as Ms. Maudie were very sweet and charming. Ms. Dubose was always very mean. She was also a morphine addict which was also out of the norm.

Kill a Mockingbird 9-11

I told Scout she better stop getting into fights. He almost got into a fight with Cecil today in school. Scout, Jem and I went over to Finch’s Landing, the place where my ancestors arrived. My daughter, Scout does not like going over there because she hates some of her cousins and family. I told her that she has to put that aside and just to behave herself. She didn’t listen to me and got into a fight with Francis. Scout said that she called me a name. I keep trying to tell her that fighting is not the way to solve her problems.

Jem and Scout do not like my old age. I personally do not think that I am very old at all. They are comparing me to other children’s parents. I believe that I proved to them that I still have my youth today when the dog appears. Cal called me while at work to tell me that there was a rapid dog walking down the street. I and Mr. Tate went out and I shot the dog. Jem kept saying my name and then saying nothing. I think that is because he does not believe that I shot that dog. The following day Jem got a baton and hit all of Mrs. Dubose flowers. For his punishment he had to read to her. He was very mad at me that he had to do that. Shortly after, she sadly died. I had to tell the kids that she was a morphine addict

Today

I was very mad when Mr. Radley filed in the hole. Me and Scout got very mad. We went up to Mr. Radley and asked why he filled in the hole. He said that the tree was dying. Me and Scout did not believe him. I think that he was lying about the reason he filled it in. Me and Scout were gonna give a letter to the person but now we cause of old Mr. Radley. I think that I might try to take the cement out of the hole.

I was very scared when Atticus woke me up at 1 in the morning. All I wanted to do was go back to bed. But then when I heard what was happening I jumped out of my bed. I went outside and all I saw was smoke and glowing fire. Its was so bight I couldnts even sees it. Me 'n' Scout went runnin over to the Radley tree when Attius said so. I was mads thats attius wont lets us me close to the cool fire.
